As one of the largest cities in the United States, it should come as no surprise that people living in the Chicago Metro area have plenty of internet choices. Of the 17 ISPs in the area, big names such as Xfinity, AT&T, Frontier, and Spectrum, stand out. However, there are many other smaller providers including Wow, Surf, XLBroadband, and Rise Broadband. Combined, these and other ISPs cover all but 0.25% of homes, and the vast majority of internet users in the Windy City can easily enjoy speeds of up to a gigabyte — more than enough to play Fortnite or stream Netflix.
Unfortunately, only a few select neighborhoods have full access to fiber. These include a handful of city blocks between East 14th Street and East Balbo Drive wedged in between the Shedd Aquarium and Chicago River. For those interested in the more readily available cable internet, Comcast's Xfinity covers 94.95% of the city. Only 1.68% of the city can't get cable internet — a small section around Jane Addams Park and a few outlying streets around the Cook County Jail.

Who has the best high-speed coverage in Chicago?
A quick look at our comprehensive coverage map should allay your concerns about finding a great broadband or fiber connection. The only thing more readily available in Chicago is good pizza. But, how do you choose an internet provider? Whether you're looking for broadband, cable or fiber, you'll want to take a look at availability, price, and customer service.
Xfinity is the clear winner for coverage, and you would be hard-pressed to find an address that didn't qualify for cable internet in Chicago. Another strong contender for broadband is WOW, which, with speeds averaging 1000 Mbps, is marginally faster than Xfinity's 993 Mbps. If you are dead set on fiber coverage and live in one of the small pockets where it's available, choose AT&T. AT&T Fiber is predominantly available to homes and businesses on either side of the Kennedy Expressway from just north of downtown all the way through Park Ridge.
Before you make your decision, spend some time looking through the maps. Speed won't be an issue no matter where you are in the Chicago area, but coverage areas can change, and there's no harm in comparing the options when you have more than one ISP to choose from.
